Spring Break Fishing Frenzy in Panama City Beach

Get ready to kick off your spring break with a bang on our 3-hour inshore fishing charter in Panama City Beach! From February 20th to June 1st, we're offering a special trip that'll have you reeling in some of the best catches the bay has to offer. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just looking to wet a line for the first time, our customizable experience ensures everyone in your group of up to six will have a blast on the water.

What's the Deal?

Starting bright and early at 6 AM, we'll hit the bay when the fish are most active. Don't worry if you're not an early bird - we can adjust the departure time to fit your schedule. This trip is all about flexibility, so if three hours isn't enough to satisfy your fishing fix, we can always add on extra time. Our goal is to make sure you get the most out of your time on the water, whether that means targeting specific species or just enjoying a relaxed day of fishing with friends and family.

Trolling the Bay

On this trip, we'll be using a technique called trolling - it's a favorite among local anglers and visitors alike. We'll set up multiple lines behind the boat as we cruise through the bay's hot spots. This method is perfect for covering a lot of water and finding where the fish are biting. Don't know how to troll? No sweat! Our experienced crew will show you the ropes, from setting up the gear to identifying the telltale signs of a fish on the line. Before you know it, you'll be reeling in Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, and maybe even a hefty redfish!

Top Catches This Season

Spring in Panama City Beach is prime time for some seriously good fishing. The waters are warming up, and the fish are getting active after the cooler winter months. Here's a rundown of what you might hook into:

Species You'll Want to Hook

Spanish Mackerel: These speedy swimmers are a blast to catch and even better to eat. They typically show up in our waters around March and stick around through fall. Known for their hard-fighting nature, Spanish mackerel will give you a run for your money when they hit your line. They're usually in the 2-4 pound range, but don't be surprised if you hook into a bigger one!

Black Drum: These bruisers are the heavyweight champions of the bay. They're here year-round, but spring is when they really start to feed aggressively. Black drum can grow to over 50 pounds, though most catches are in the 5-30 pound range. They're not the prettiest fish in the sea, but they put up a heck of a fight and make for some tasty table fare.

King Mackerel: Also known as "kingfish," these toothy predators start showing up in our waters as they warm up in spring. They're fast, they're strong, and they'll make your reel scream. Kings can grow over 50 pounds, though most catches are in the 10-30 pound range. Landing one of these is always a highlight of any fishing trip.

Redfish: A favorite among locals and visitors alike, redfish are hard-fighting, great-tasting fish that can be found in our waters year-round. Spring is an excellent time to target them as they become more active in the warming waters. They average 3-10 pounds, but trophy "bull reds" over 20 pounds aren't uncommon. The distinctive black spot on their tail makes for a great photo op!

Ladyfish: Don't let their name fool you - these fish are anything but dainty. Often called the "poor man's tarpon," ladyfish are known for their acrobatic leaps and fast runs when hooked. They're typically in the 1-3 pound range, but what they lack in size they make up for in fight. They're not great for eating, but they're a ton of fun to catch and release.

What to Expect on the Water

Our 3-hour trip is perfect for those looking to squeeze in some fishing without taking up the whole day. We'll start by heading out to some of our favorite spots in the bay. As we troll along, keep an eye out for birds diving into the water - that's often a sign of fish feeding near the surface. Don't forget to bring a camera; the sunrises over the bay are pretty spectacular, and you'll want to capture your big catches for bragging rights later.

Our captain and crew know these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll put you on the fish and make sure you have the best chance of landing a keeper. We provide all the gear you'll need, from rods and reels to bait and tackle. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure (and maybe a snack or two). Don't forget to grab a Florida fishing license before you come - we can help you with that if needed.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

There's something special about fishing in Panama City Beach during spring break. Maybe it's the thrill of feeling that first tug on the line as a Spanish mackerel hits your bait. Or perhaps it's the satisfaction of reeling in a hefty black drum after a tough fight. Whatever it is, our guests keep coming back year after year for more. It's not just about the fish, either - it's about the memories you make out on the water with friends and family.

Time to Book Your Spot

Ready to make some waves and catch some fish? Our 3-hour Spring Break Special is booking up fast, so don't wait to reserve your spot. Whether you're a group of college buddies looking for a break from the beach crowds, a family wanting to try something new, or a couple of fishing enthusiasts eager to test the waters, we've got you covered. Remember, we can customize the trip to fit your needs, so let us know if you have any special requests.

Give us a call or shoot us a message to lock in your date. We'll take care of the rest, from providing the gear to sharing our local knowledge of the best fishing spots. All you need to do is show up ready for some springtime fishing action in Panama City Beach. Trust us, there's no better way to spend a morning during your spring break. See you on the water!

Learn more about the species

Black Drum

Black Drum are hefty bottom-dwellers that can reach over 100 pounds, though most are in the 5-30 pound range. Look for them around oyster beds, pilings, and mudflats in bays and estuaries. They use their strong jaws and teeth to crush shellfish, so fishing near oyster reefs is a good bet. Spring is the best time to target Black Drum as they school up to spawn. They make a distinctive croaking sound, so listen for that drumming noise. Anglers enjoy battling these bruisers - they pull hard and put up a stubborn fight. For bait, you can't beat fresh crab or shrimp. Use a fish-finder rig with a circle hook to keep your bait on the bottom. Here's a local tip: the biggest drums aren't always the best eating. For the table, stick to smaller "puppy drum" under 15 pounds - they're much tastier.

Black Drum

King Mackerel

King Mackerel, or "Kings," are speed demons that'll make your reel scream. These toothy predators average 20-40 pounds but can top 100. Look for them around reefs, wrecks, and drop-offs in 30-150 feet of water. They're migratory, so spring and fall are prime seasons as they move through. Anglers love targeting Kings for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps. They hit hard and fight to the bitter end. Trolling with live bait like blue runners or menhaden is deadly. Or try slow-trolling big spoons and plugs. Here's a pro tip: use a stinger rig with two treble hooks when live baiting. Kings often short-strike baits, so that trailing hook helps stick more fish. Just be careful handling them - those teeth are no joke! Kings make great smoked fish dip too.

King Mackerel

Ladyfish

Ladyfish might not be the biggest catch, but they're pound-for-pound one of the most acrobatic fish out there. These skinny, silvery fish usually run 1-3 pounds and love to school up in bays, inlets, and along beaches. You'll often see them skipping across the surface when feeding. Anglers enjoy targeting ladyfish because they're aggressive and put on an aerial show when hooked. They hit just about any small lure and jump constantly. It's great light-tackle fun, especially for kids or beginners. Look for ladyfish year-round, but they're most active in warmer months. Try small jigs, spoons, or flies retrieved quickly. Here's a local trick: use ladyfish as cut bait for bigger species like snook or tarpon. Fresh ladyfish strips are like candy to predators.

Ladyfish

Redfish

Redfish, or red drum, are one of our most popular inshore species. They typically run 5-30 pounds and love super shallow water - you'll often see their tails waving above the surface as they root for crabs. Look for them around oyster bars, grass flats, and mangroves, especially on high tides. Fall is prime time as big schools of bull reds move in to spawn. Anglers can't get enough of sight-fishing for tailing reds in skinny water. It's a rush when you see that copper-colored fish turn on your bait. They pull hard and make strong runs. For artificials, weedless spoons and soft plastics work great. But it's hard to beat a live shrimp under a popping cork. Local tip: on hot days, look for reds hanging in deeper potholes on the flats. A well-placed cast can produce explosive strikes.

Redfish

Spanish Mackerel

Spanish Mackerel are fast, feisty fish that'll give you a run for your money. These silver bullets usually run 2-3 feet long and love to school up near the surface. You'll find them cruising around bays, inlets, and nearshore waters, especially where there's structure or bait schools. Spring and fall are prime times as they migrate. Anglers go nuts for Spanish Mackerel because they're a blast to catch - they hit hard and make blistering runs. Plus, they're tasty eating when fresh. To hook into some, try trolling small spoons or live bait like pilchards. Keep an eye out for birds diving - that often means Spanish are feeding below. One local trick: when you see them busting bait on top, cast a flashy jig or spoon right into the frenzy and retrieve fast. The faster you work it, the more they seem to want it. Just watch out for those razor-sharp teeth when unhooking!
